A very warm welcome to Laura Briggs; thank you for joining us on BooksChatter!

Here at BooksChatter we love music; do you have a music playlist that you used in A Wedding in Cornwall , or which inspired you whilst you were writing it?

"I love to use a mix of music genres for my different projects, so everything from oldies, to country, to light pop can turn up on a playlist!"
What was the inspiration for A Wedding in Cornwall?
"The popular television show Poldark was a huge inspiration for A Wedding in Cornwall and its sequel books. I based the book’s hero, Matthew Rose, on Aidan Turner’s version of Ross Poldark and, of course, the setting of a beautiful Cornish village was also influenced by the show to some extent."
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"Sadly, I don’t have much in common with my heroine Julianne or her friends (aside from our shared admiration for Cornwall, that is!)."
The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for A Wedding in Cornwall - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
"The image chosen for A Wedding in Cornwall was meant to have a feel-good factor with bright, cheerful colours and a scene that would capture the idyllic nature of Matt’s Cornish cottage and garden. The original art used came from Elena Mikhaylova’s work available on the stock images and photography website Dreamstime."
Why should we read A Wedding in Cornwall and what sets it apart from the rest? What makes your book unique?
"You should read A Wedding in Cornwall if you’re looking for a fun, upbeat escape from the day to day routine. It may not be terribly unique as far as romance stories go, but one element that makes it stand out a bit from the other books in its genre is that it features an American heroine in an English setting."
Can you tell us something quirky about A Wedding in Cornwall, its story and characters?
"Here are some quirky facts about the character’s names: Julianne's name was inspired in part by Shakespeare's heroine Juliet ; Lady Amanda is named for Amanda Price in Lost in Austen, and Lord William is named for the historical King William of William and Mary!"
Who would you recommend A Wedding in Cornwall to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
"I would recommend this book to someone who loves Cornwall, or Poldark, or romance stories with a light-hearted nature."
If you could / wished to turn A Wedding in Cornwall and the A Wedding in Cornwall series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Ah, that’s a fun thought! I think Emma Stone as Julianne and Aidan Turner as Matthew could work nicely as the lead roles. And, of course, the dream filming location would be in Cornwall!"
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I love to write about adventurous, escapist settings and situations. Aside from penning several romance/chick lit style books, I have co-authored some novels in the fairytale/fantasy genre. However, my favourite genre to read about is probably mystery."
What is your writing process?
"A few brainstorming sessions usually result in a full outline to write from and then it’s just a matter of scene by scene up until the end!"
What is in store next?
"Currently, I’m working on a new Cornish-based series that I’m hoping fans of Julianne’s adventures will enjoy. Titled ‘A Little Hotel in Cornwall’, it follows the adventures of a would-be novelist working as a maid at an opulent seaside hotel."
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"Here is a pic of my newest kitty, Gus, being held as he naps (the silly pose was completely his own idea!)."
Aww, Gus you are an absolute sweetie; lots of chin scratches to you from all of us at BooksChatter!

Laura, thank you so much for sharing Gus with us!
