Synopsis

Bailey didn’t mean to catch his parents plotting to unleash the sinister Trenton Maroney and his powerful oceanic army on the world. It was an honest mistake. Now, he’s got the horribly disfigured Mr. Lovell on his trail, which is doing wonders for Bailey’s anxiety.

His only ally is Franklin, a burn-out several decades past wishing his brother Trenton was destroyed for good. Franklin has battled his brother for two thousand years, and has nothing to show for it except his beloved Mustang.

To stop Mr. Lovell from awakening Trenton, Franklin and Bailey will have to get past his parents, a one-eyed stoner, crooked cops, giant Scotsmen, and Trenton’s army, which can only be summoned by one thing: the mysterious Conch Shell of Doom.

Teaser: Excerpts

The patrolman looked over the ID, making sure it was authentic.  Franklin knew how to make a fake better than anyone, and he'd never been caught.  This cop looked too stupid to break that trend.

"A Yankee, huh?"

"Sure.  Whatever the license says."  Franklin's fake license included a home address in Pennsylvania.  He wasn't sure of the actual name of his birthplace, since it's changed names so much over time.  Maybe Switzerland or Austria?  He couldn't remember.

Man, he thought.   That's depressing.

----------------

"You know you snore?"

Her face lit up, so surprised at the accusation. "I do not."

"Afraid so."

She shook her head, the hair falling in front of her face.  "And here I thought I was the perfect lady."

"Perfect imitation, maybe."  Bailey couldn't help but smile.  It felt great to joke around with her again, to see her happy.  the whole thing was icing on the cake for him.

She bopped him on th arm again.  It was a little harder than last time, but still playful.  "You're supposed to say 'Yes Alexis, you are the very portrait of a classy, sophisticated lady', or something extremely flattering to that extent."

----------------

"We're separate," Alexis said.

Bailey glanced at her, unsure if he should be thankful or disappointed.  "I can get it if you want."

"No, that's okay.  it's not like this is a date or anything."

Disappointment it was.  Despite the sort of denial, there were worse things in the world.  Like having parents that may or may not be in cahoots with a monster.  Yes, a goodnight kiss would've been great but lifting the pressure of a date from his chest was godsend.  There was enough pressure surrounding the stakeout.  Throwing a date together at the last second was too much for one guy to handle.

----------------

Portman pushed down on the receiver before Franklin could thank her.  He held the phone away from his ear, mouth open in mid-sentence.  He couldn't believe the gall of this guy.

"you wreck my night, I wreck yours."  Portman grinned, showing off coffee-stained teeth.  "Only fair."

Franklin slammed the phone down on the receiver, with Portman's fingers still in it.

Shared Universe

Author Note: "Some of my novels are set within the same universe. It's kind of like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I'm not trying to work my characters up to something akin to The Avengers. I just like the idea of characters popping in and out of my stories."

So far one other book is set in the same shared universe as The Conch Shell of Doom.

Working for the man upstairs stinks, but working with Samantha, an angel in training? Offensive!

Only one thing is so powerful, so dangerous that Heaven and Hell must work together to find it: the Shard of Gabriel.

With a mysterious Black Cloud of Death hot on the shard's trail, a desperate Heaven enlists the help of Bartholomew, a demon who knows more about the shard than almost anyone. Six years ago, he had it in his hands. If only he'd used it before his coup to overthrow the Devil failed. Now, he's been sprung from his eternal punishment to help Samantha, an angel in training, recover the shard before the Black Cloud of Death finds it.

If Bart wants to succeed, he'll have to fight the temptation to betray Samantha and the allure of the shard. After an existence full of evil, the only way Bart can get right with Hell is to be good.

About the Author

Ryan Hill and Maggie Hunter S. Gonzodog Growing up, Ryan Hill spent his time writing stories instead of doing homework.  This resulted in an obsession with being an author and a gross incompetence in the fields of science and mathematics.  A graduate of North Carolina State University, Ryan loves the Wolfpack.

He currently lives in Raleigh with his Miniature Schnauzer, Hunter S. Gonzodog (pictured to the side). The little with with Ryan is Maggie, who had to be put to sleep in December 2015.  Stupid cancer.

Ryan also feels strange about referring to himself in the third person, but that hasn't stopped him from doing it this whole time.
