A very warm welcome back to Emily Mims; great to have you back on BooksChatter!

Once again we start with some music to set the tone for Evergreen - traditional Hawaiian or ukulele music; slack key guitar, ukulele, Jake Shimabukuro, etc. Enjoy!

What was the inspiration for Evergreen?
"I play the ukulele myself and just got back from a 10 day ukulele cruise, filled with jams and workshops."
How much of yourself is reflected in this book, and how?
"Am I from Hawaii? No.
Do I have an unusual family situation? No.
Do I play the ukulele and love Hawaiian music. You bet!"

The first thing that draws me to a book is its cover. Can you tell us about your cover for Evergreen - why you chose that concept and who the artist is.
" The artist is Boroughs Art Director Chris Keeslar. All of the Smoky Blue covers picture the couple with the mountains in the background and the instrument our heroine plays across the bottom."
Why should we read Evergreen and what sets it apart from the rest? What makes your book unique?
"You should read this book because I bring to it my love of both Appalachia and Hawaii, and my love of making music!"
Can you tell us something quirky about Evergreen, its story and characters?
") The situation between Leilani and her brother is unique enough to have inspired considerable discussion among my editors before I went through with writing it."
Who would you recommend Evergreen to and what should readers be aware of (any warnings or disclaimers)?
")I would recommend this book to any romance reader over the age of eighteen, but in particular readers who love music (especially ukulele music), Appalachia, or Hawaii. I would especially recommend it to other musicians."
If you could / wished to turn Evergreen and the The Smokey Blues series into a movie, who would be your dream team?
"Complete unknowns to play the lead characters and whatever director and producer just won an Academy Award!

To be shot on location in Tennessee and Hawaii, of course."
What do you like to write and read about? Do you stick to a particular genre or do you like to explore different ones?
"I like to write about modern women facing modern problems. I stick to contemporary romance or romantic suspense. No blushing Regency virgins for me, although in the hands of other authors these are great also."
What is your writing process?
"I start first with some kind of conflict-what will hold these characters at odds for the entire story? Then I write a detailed synopsis of each chapter (I reserve the right to make changes but seldom do). Then I sit down and write me a book! I do revisions both as I go and after the mss is finished."
What is in store next?
"The sequel to this book, ‘Indigo’, is in the editing process. I have four more stories plotted in detail and ready to go."
And as a final quirky thing, to get to know you a little bit better... do you have a pet or something that is special to you that you could share with us?
"I have a chiweenie named Cocoa. I love that little dog!"
And this time we get to see a picture of the little one! Thank you :-)
